The hryvnia rate here is a daily cross rate (NBU × ECB); ČNB publishes an official hryvnia rate once a month. This is not an exchange-office rate — the rate at an exchange counter will be different.

How to read the rate

  • The rate shown is the official reference rate. Banks and exchange offices add their own spread.
  • The hryvnia rate is updated daily by the NBU; ECB rates once per working day.
  • For larger amounts compare your bank, your card and Wise/Revolut — the difference is real.

Frequently asked questions about rates and exchange

How much is 100 CZK in UAH today?+

The current amount is shown in the "popular amounts" table above – it is recalculated daily. To calculate another amount, multiply: amount for 100 × 5 will give 500, × 10 – a thousand.

The calculation is based on the daily cross-rate: the UAH to EUR rate from the NBU (National Bank of Ukraine), multiplied by the EUR/CZK rate from the ECB (European Central Bank). The NBU's UAH rate is updated daily, ECB rates – once a day on business days, and the page itself pulls fresh data once an hour.

It is important to understand that this is a reference rate, not the price at the checkout. It answers the question "how much does it cost at the official rate", not "how much will I get at the exchange office" – the second figure will always be slightly worse.

Why is the exchange rate at the exchange office always different?+

Exchange offices and banks make money on the difference between the buying rate and the selling rate – this is called the spread. Plus a commission, which is sometimes shown separately, and sometimes already "baked" into the rate.

Therefore, the rule is simple: the official rate is the upper limit of what you can get, not the offer itself. If an exchange office promises a rate "like the official one" and "zero commission" at the same time, look for where exactly it makes money: usually in the minimum amount, in the rate for small bills, or in the commission for a specific currency.

Before a large exchange, compare two or three places and look not at the rate, but at the total "how much will I get in hand". What is an exchange office (zmenáreň) – in the glossary.

What is more profitable – a bank, a card, or an exchange office?+

For small amounts, the difference is usually within a few euros, and not worth a separate trip. For large amounts – calculate three things together: the rate, the commission, and the minimum transaction amount.

Paying by card in a store often turns out to be more profitable than exchanging cash, because the bank uses the payment system's rate, which is close to the interbank rate. But watch out for two pitfalls: dynamic currency conversion on the terminal (when you are offered to "charge in your currency" – almost always at a worse rate, you must refuse) and your own bank's commission for transactions in foreign currency.

Services like Wise or Revolut offer a rate close to the reference rate, but they have their own limits and tariffs, especially on weekends. Check them in the app before transferring, not after.

How much does it cost to transfer money to Ukraine?+

The main cost of a transfer is most often hidden not in the commission, but in the exchange rate. A service may show "0 commission" but include 2-3% in the currency conversion rate itself – and this will be more expensive than a fair fixed commission.

Therefore, compare not the tariffs, but the result: enter the amount in several services and see how many UAH the recipient will receive. This is the only figure that matters.

Separately check three things: the method of receipt (to card, to account, cash), the crediting period, and limits. A period of "up to three days" in practice can mean the next business day, or it can mean Monday if you send on Friday evening.

How to transfer UAH abroad?+

The direction from Ukraine outwards is more complex than the reverse: wartime currency restrictions apply here, and they change. Therefore, the first thing to do is to check the current limits with your Ukrainian bank, and not rely on advice from forums.

The three most common ways are: transferring from a Ukrainian card to a foreign account through a bank, services like Wise or Revolut (if your bank allows top-ups), and a classic SWIFT transfer. Each has its own limits, commission, and timeframe.

Also consider the difference in rates: the conversion of UAH occurs on the side of the sending bank, and this is where the main loss is hidden. A broader context is in the "Finance" guide.

Why is the UAH exchange rate here different from the "official" one at ČNB?+

The Czech National Bank publishes the UAH exchange rate only once a month – this is the rate for currencies that are not included in the daily list. Therefore, in the middle of the month, it can differ significantly from the market rate.

Our calculator calculates the daily cross-rate: we take the UAH to EUR rate from the NBU and convert it to CZK at the ECB rate. Therefore, our figure is usually more up-to-date, but it is not the official rate of the Czech Republic.

Practical rule: for everyday estimation ("how much is this in UAH"), use our calculation, and for any official calculations with Czech institutions – tax returns, customs documents, accounting – use the ČNB rate for the required date.

Rates are indicative and refreshed once a day from official sources (NBU, ECB). This is an information service, not financial advice. For exact amounts check with your own bank.
