Pardubice: A Guide for Foreigners

What you need to know about living Pardubice: where to look for housing and work, where to go for documents, and how to travel to Ukraine.

AVERAGE PAY IN THE REGION
44 121 Kč

Pardubice is a regional city one hundred kilometers east of Prague. Unemployment here is 3.80% for the region – the second lowest in Czechia, and 3.95% in the district. The region's average salary is 44,121 Kč.

The largest employer is not a factory, but the regional hospital: 5–10 thousand employees. Next are the wholesaler JIP východočeská, the regional police, the auto components maker KIEKERT in Přelouč, the university, FOXCONN, and Panasonic Automotive.

And a quick debunking of a common myth: Synthesia, Paramo, and Explosia are not the city's largest employers. According to the state registry, they have 500–999, 200–249, and 500–999 employees respectively, meaning fewer than any company on the official list of largest employers. These are historically important chemical plants in the Semtín industrial zone – but not the main labor market.

Semtín: big names, smaller numbers

In the Semtín industrial zone, there are Synthesia, Explosia (the birthplace of Semtex explosives, named after the toponym), and PARAMO. These are historically important chemical companies, but according to the public registry, they have 500–999, 500–999, and 200–249 employees, respectively – fewer than any company on the official list of the largest employers in the district. The reason is partly technical: Synthesia's workforce is divided among three legal entities at the same address – since 2024, Synthesia Nitrocellulose has been spun off, and since 2025, Synthesia Power will be.

Official pay statistics at city level barely exist in Czechia, so we show the region and say which one. Office addresses and prices in the guide always carry a source and a date of checking — without those they do not appear here at all.
