Plzeň is the fourth-largest city in the Czech Republic and the center of a region where every eighth resident is a foreigner: 82,403 people, 13.4% of the region's population — this is the second-highest rate in the country after Prague. And six out of ten of these foreigners are Ukrainians.

The city thrives on heavy industry with a big name: Škoda Transportation makes trams, trains, and trolleybuses, Doosan Škoda Power makes steam turbines, Škoda JS makes equipment for nuclear power plants.

The average salary in the region is 47,076 Kč, ranking fourth out of fourteen regions; the median salary is 45,256 Kč. Rent for a 60 m² apartment costs about 17,237 Kč — more expensive than Ostrava, cheaper than Brno, and noticeably cheaper than Prague.

Where to go in Plzeň for temporary protection?+

At KACPU at Americká 2186/47 — this is the regional assistance center that handles temporary protection.

Everything else — extending your stay, changing your address, permanent residence, biometrics — is at the migration department at Jagellonská 1017/9 (Mon and Wed 8:00 AM–12:00 PM and 12:30 PM–5:00 PM, Tue and Thu 8:00 AM–12:00 PM, Friday by appointment only).

KACPU does not publish its own phone number; the temporary protection hotline is 974 801 802, the general hotline for residence matters is 974 801 801.

How much does housing cost in Plzeň?+

A 60 m² apartment in July 2026 — around 17,237 Kč per month, 292 Kč per square meter. The price has increased by 6.6% in a year.

One-bedroom apartments listed on Bezrealitky: basic rent 10,600–15,000 Kč, plus utilities 1,300–4,340 Kč on top. It's this additional charge you should look at closely — utility costs are almost always listed separately in Czech ads.

Comparison across the country: Ostrava 14,567 Kč, Plzeň 17,237 Kč, Brno 21,427 Kč, Prague 26,025 Kč for the same area.

Where to go in the evening if you feel unwell?+

Caution is needed here, and it's best to read this in advance.

The faculty hospital does not have a separate emergency reception department in the usual sense. There is a surgical outpatient clinic with an emergency function — area Lochotín, pavilion C, phones +420 377 103 026 and 377 103 027. Its hours are unusual: only 7:00 AM–3:30 PM on weekdays, and it's open 24/7 only on weekends and holidays.

Therefore, on a weekday evening with an acute problem, call 155 and do not go there without calling. In case of a life threat — call 155 or 112.

How many Ukrainians are in the Plzeň Region?+

The statistics do not publish an exact official figure specifically for Ukrainians, but they do publish two other figures from which it can be derived: there are 82,403 foreigners in the region, and 60.8% of them are citizens of Ukraine. This is approximately 50,000 people — our calculation, not a figure from the source.

The share of foreigners in the region's population is 13.4%, the second highest in the Czech Republic after Prague. Since February 2022, the number of Ukrainians here has increased almost 3.5 times.

This means it is one of the most "Ukrainian" regions in the country by concentration.
