Ústí nad Labem is a regional city in northern Czechia, and for a Ukrainian family, it is primarily interesting for its prices: rent for a 60 m² apartment costs 12,491 Kč here – the cheapest among large Czech cities (in Prague 26,025 Kč, in Brno 21,427 Kč).

An interesting detail about salaries: the average in the Ústí Region is 45,482 Kč, which is higher than in South Moravia (49,510 Kč only in Brno and its surroundings) and close to Moravian-Silesia. So, the myth that 'they pay little in the north' is false; it's harder here to find a job than to get a salary.

Main organizational convenience: the migration department and the temporary protection center are located at the same address – Berní 2261/1. In Prague, Brno, and Ostrava, these are different buildings in different parts of the city.

Migration department and KACPU – one address

A rare case for Czechia: KACPU also operates here – the center that processes applications for temporary protection. This means one building instead of two ends of the city. The entire department is on the raised ground floor: service windows – entrance from Berní street, biometrics separately. Barrier-free access – through the courtyard from Růžový palouček street, with prior notification. The building also houses the Centrum na podporu integrace cizinců (Center for the Support of Integration of Foreigners) (Mon, Wed 8:00 AM–4:00 PM).

General city matters. Each of the four city districts also has its own úřad (office) – this is where you go for minor municipal issues at your place of residence.

Frequently asked questions about the city

Where to go in Ústí for documents and temporary protection?+

At one address: Berní 2261/1. The migration department and KACPU (the center that accepts applications for temporary protection) are also located here. This is more convenient than in Prague, Brno, or Ostrava, where these are separate buildings.

Hours: Monday and Wednesday 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, Tuesday and Thursday 8:00 AM–2:00 PM by appointment only, Friday 7:00 AM–11:00 AM.

⚠️ From July 30 to August 3, 2026, the office will be closed for technical reasons.

Is it true that housing is cheapest here?+

Among large Czech cities — yes. In July 2026, a 60 m² apartment cost an average of 12,491 Kč per month, and per square meter — 229 Kč.

For comparison: Ostrava 14,567 Kč, Brno 21,427 Kč, Prague 26,025 Kč for the same area.

At the same time, the average salary here is 45,482 Kč — not the lowest in the country. This means the 'rent to earnings' ratio in Ústí is one of the best in Czechia. The difficulty is not with money, but with the fact that the job market here is narrower than in Prague or Brno.

And remember: rent is almost always accompanied by a separate advance payment for services.

Does this office serve my district?+

Yes, if you live in the districts of Ústí nad Labem, Teplice, Děčín, or Litoměřice.

And no, if you are from Chomutov, Most, or Louny — these districts of the same Ústí Region are served by a different office. Coming to the 'regional city' is not enough here.

When is the magistrate open?+

Monday and Wednesday 8:00 AM–11:00 AM and 1:00 PM–5:00 PM, Tuesday 8:00 AM–11:00 AM and 1:00 PM–3:00 PM, and the magistrate is closed on Thursday.

The address is Velká Hradební 2336/8. But keep in mind: each of the four city districts has its own separate úřad (municipal office), and minor municipal matters are handled there, at your place of residence.

The magistrate does not handle foreigner residency issues at all — that is the migration department at Berní 2261/1.

Before you set off

🔴 The Ministry of the Interior branch in Ústí is closed from July 30 to August 3, 2026 – for technical reasons. If you have an appointment scheduled for these days, they will contact you. Plan your visit before or after.
🔴 You must appear to get your visa sticker by September 30, 2026 for the extended temporary protection (extended until 03/31/2027). Online registration closed on 03/15/2026 – only personal visits remain. Details are in the legalization hub.
Residents of Chomutov, Most, and Loun should not come here. The Ústí branch serves the districts of Teplice, Děčín, Litoměřice, and Ústí itself; the rest of the region is served by another office.
