During the Easter holidays, from April 2 to 6, 2026, the police of the Czech Republic will be working in an increased operational mode. Security measures will affect both the traffic situation and public order, due to current global threats and recent incidents within the country.
Patrols in crowded places
More than 1000 police officers will be involved in ensuring security daily. Special attention will be paid to so-called "soft targets" – places where many people gather:
Religious sites and churches during holiday services.
Transport hubs and international airports.
Sports, cultural, and public events.
Patrols equipped with ballistic protection and long-barreled weapons will be present on city streets and at strategic points. The goal of these measures is to ensure maximum police visibility and readiness to respond immediately to any signs of radicalization or extremism.
Large-scale road checks
At the same time, a nationwide road operation will begin. The Easter period is traditionally characterized by peak traffic on highways due to mass travel to visit relatives and go to country houses.
The main efforts of the traffic police will focus on strict control of speed limits, the use of seat belts, and checking the technical condition of vehicles. Special attention will be paid to identifying drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as last year's statistics showed over 700 accidents during the holidays, with alcohol being a key factor in 60 of them. The most worrying situation is traditionally observed in the districts of Klatovy, Domažlice, and Hodonín.
Due to the large number of motorcyclists and the appearance of so-called "holiday" drivers on the roads, who rarely drive, BESIP experts urge experienced road users to be tolerant of others' mistakes at intersections and to strictly maintain distance in possible traffic jams.
The police urge citizens to be vigilant and understanding: the increased presence of armed patrols is aimed solely at preventing risks and ensuring a peaceful holiday.
