On Saturday, March 28, 2026, Prague will host the traditional half marathon. About 17,000 athletes from all over the world are expected to run the 21-kilometer distance. The route, which goes through the historic city center, will offer participants unique views but will require significant changes in transportation. The start and finish of the race this year are moved to Bubenské nábřeží (Bubny Embankment) in Holešovice, and the technical base will be located on the grounds of the Holešovice Market.
Schedule of Restrictions and Start Zone
Major road closures will begin in advance. Bubenské nábřeží in the section between Argentinská and Komunardů streets will be closed to traffic from 06:00 on March 27 to 20:00 on March 28.
The race itself starts on Saturday at 10:00 and will end around 13:00. During this period, the police will gradually close streets as runners pass and reopen them immediately after the last participant has finished. Strict parking bans are in effect along the entire route; cars left in the race area will be towed.
Geography of Closures by District
The route will affect five city districts (Prague 1, 2, 5, 7, and 8). The main restrictions will affect the following locations:
Prague 1: Čechův Bridge, Edvard Beneš Embankment and Dvořák Embankment, Jan Palach Square, Smetana Embankment, Legion Bridge, Na Příkopě street, and Old Town Square.
Prague 2: Jiráskův Bridge and Rašínovo Embankment.
Prague 5: Janáčkovo Embankment, Zborovská street, and Strakonická.
Prague 7: Holešovice Market area, Hlávkův Bridge, Captain Jaroš Embankment, and Libeňský Bridge.
Prague 8: Rohanské Embankment and the adjacent streets V Holešovičkách and Štorchova.
Local restrictions are also planned for pedestrians and cyclists. Specifically, on Saturday morning (from 09:15 to 10:00), the bridge across Štvanice Island (Štvanická lávka) will be temporarily closed.
Public Transport Operation
Changes in tram and bus operations will take effect on Friday evening. Routes No. 1, 6, 12, 14, 15, and 25 will follow modified routes or shortened distances.
To compensate for the inconvenience, additional bus lines X1 (Nádraží Holešovice – Strossmayerovo náměstí) and X25 (Palmovka – Strossmayerovo náměstí) have been organized. On Saturday, the main mode of transport in the city center will be the metro, whose service will be strengthened with additional trains.
