Fraud with benefits ended in conviction for foreigners

A married couple from Ukraine, a 44-year-old man and his 48-year-old wife, illegally received humanitarian payments for two years, causing the state a loss of over 300,000 Czech crowns. The man not only hid his income but also faked a disability for several months, receiving about 160,000 crowns. His wife lived in Ukraine and only occasionally came to the Czech Republic to cash out benefits registered in her name and her daughter's name. The police confiscated the couple's savings in crowns and dollars, which they planned to use to buy a car. The court sentenced both to suspended prison terms and deportation from the country for 3 to 4 years, with repayment of the stolen amount.
