What does “Odvody” mean in Czechia?

Odvody — mandatory deductions from your salary. You should look at them from both sides: what is taken from you, and what your employer pays on top.

Rates 2026

  • Employee: social security 7.1% plus health insurance 4.5% — total 11.6%.
  • Employer: social security 24.8% plus health insurance 9.0% — total 33.8% on top of your gross salary.

Important. You exceeded the threshold of 1,762,812 CZK — don't panic: 23% will only apply to the amount over the threshold, not to your entire income. And remember the asymmetry: social security has a ceiling, but health insurance does not.
