What does “Spádová škola” mean in Czechia?

Spádová škola — elementary school, assigned to your address. Its main feature: it must accept your child.

Steps

find your spádová school in the municipality
submit a written application
the school accepts — it can only refuse if it is full

If all refused

Escalation: mayor → regional authority → MŠMT (Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports). They must find a place for the child — it is not "a matter of luck".

Important. "No places available" from one school is not the end of the conversation. Full capacity is the only legal reason for refusal, and the duty to find a place lies with the applicant, the region, and the MŠMT (Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports).
