Peněžitá pomoc v mateřství

financial support during pregnancy and childbirth ("maternity leave allowance")

What does “Peněžitá pomoc v mateřství” mean in Czechia?

Maternity benefit (in everyday talk — mateřská) is a payment from sickness insurance for the time of pregnancy and care for a newborn baby.

Conditions

  • 270 days of sickness insurance in the last 2 years
  • participation in insurance at the time of the start of the payment

How much and for how long

  • 70% of the reduced DVZ per calendar day
  • 28 weeks — normal duration
  • 37 weeks — twins or more
  • reduction limits 2026: 1,633 / 2,449 / 4,897 CZK

Father can also

The maternity benefit can be received by the father — except for the first 6 weeks after birth. The conditions are the same, plus a written agreement with the mother.

Important. PPM — not "pregnant woman's automatic right," but an insurance payment: without 270 days of sickness insurance in the last 2 years, there is no right. The main trap is for those who have just started working or work on a DPP (agreement on work performance) below the insurance threshold (12,000 CZK/month).
