Sending your readings regularly is not only good for accurate monthly payments. Experts point out three key situations when it is necessary:
Changing suppliers: accurate readings at the time of transfer prevent disputes and calculation errors between companies.
Moving house: recording the meter reading when handing over or taking over a property is the best way to avoid someone else's debts.
Monitoring costs: the ability to track usage trends throughout the year without waiting for a scheduled inspection.
For residents in the Czech Republic within the GasNet distribution area, the app "Samoodečet spotřeby plynu" (available on Google Play) and the web service mobilnisamoodecty.cz are available. The main advantage of the system is that it is universal: you can use it no matter which company you have a gas supply contract with.
The process takes no more than five minutes and does not require mandatory registration (although registered users can see a history of all their readings):
Take your reading. Write down the numbers shown on the meter's display (usually 5–7 digits in a black box).
Enter the data in the app or on the website mobilnisamoodecty.cz.
Take a photo; this is required. The photo must clearly show both the numbers and the meter's serial number.
After sending, the system will automatically check the data, and usually by the next day, you will receive a confirmation by SMS or email.
In the 10 years the service has been operating, over 550,000 readings have been submitted through it. Today, about 200,000 people actively use the app, which confirms: the era of waiting for controllers is becoming a thing of the past.
