Bodový systém

point system

What does “Bodový systém” mean in Czechia?

Bodový systém (point system) is a Czech system for recording traffic violations (law no. 361/2000 Coll.). With a change from 01.01.2024, it has become simpler and stricter at the same time.

Three categories instead of five

There were five categories before, now there are only three: 2, 4, or 6 points for a violation.

When you lose your license

  • 12 points — you lose your driving license.
  • You must hand in your license within 5 days.

How points are removed

  • 12 months without violations — minus 4 points.
  • Another 24 months — minus another 4 points.
  • 36 months — all remaining points are removed.

"Twice and you're out" rules

  • "Dvakrát a dost" (twice and you're out): two 6-point violations in 3 years — automatic loss of license for up to 3 years.
  • "Třikrát a dost" (three times and you're out): three medium violations in 2 years.
Important. Points are not deducted "per year," but in steps: 12 months of clean driving give a minus of 4 points, and only after 36 months does the entire remainder disappear. One 6-point incident lasts for years.
