Driver's license exchange is the process of replacing a Ukrainian driver's license with a Czech one. It does not apply to everyone: first, check if you even need to exchange your license.
Who it concerns
- Those who have established obvyklé bydliště (usual residence) in the Czech Republic — 185 days per calendar year.
- It does not apply to those whose stay is not permitted for longer than 1 year — the obligation to exchange does not extend to them.
Deadline
3 months from the moment of establishing obvyklé bydliště (usual residence) or from the issuance of a long-term residence permit.
Where to go
- Any obecní úřad obce s rozšířenou působností (municipal office with extended powers) (206 in the Czech Republic) — not necessarily in your place of residence.
- No photo is needed — it will be taken on site.
- The license must comply with the Vienna Convention of 1968, to which Ukraine is a party.
Bonus about cars
A car with Ukrainian registration can be driven in the Czech Republic for up to 6 months without re-registration — this is a separate period, do not confuse it with exchanging licenses.
