Řidičský průkaz is a Czech driver's license. For Ukrainians, the main question is not about the document itself, but whether you must exchange your Ukrainian license for a Czech one.
When Exchange is Mandatory
- When you have established obvyklé bydliště (usual residence) — meaning you have lived in the Czech Republic for 185 days in a calendar year.
- The deadline for exchange is 3 months from the moment you established obvyklé bydliště or from the date your long-term residence permit was issued.
When Exchange is NOT Needed
The obligation to exchange does not apply if your residence is not permitted for a period longer than 1 year. For some holders of temporary protection, this completely removes the issue.
Where to Exchange
- Any obecní úřad obce s rozšířenou působností (municipal office of a municipality with extended powers) — there are 206 of these in the Czech Republic.
- You do not need to bring a photo.
- The license must comply with the Vienna Convention of 1968, to which Ukraine is a party.
Licenses and Points
Czech licenses work with a point system: violations result in 2, 4, or 6 points. With 12 points, you lose your driving privileges and must surrender your license within 5 days.
