What does “Jazyková příprava” mean in Czechia?

Language Preparation is language preparation in Czech for children who came to a Czech school without knowing the language. This is not charity or a project — it is a systemic right.

How many hours

Up to 400 hours per year for free for children with temporary protection — systematically, through regional authorities, directly in schools.

🔴 What has changed since 01.01.2026

Adaptation groups as a separate grant call — this was for 2022–2023. From 01.01.2026, they were replaced by systemic funding through "school indexing": schools with a larger share of children with language barriers automatically receive more money, without any applications.

Legal stability

Lex Ukraine for education is now indefinite — "effectiveness is not time-limited".

And for adults?

This is a separate world: almost all Czech courses for adults from non-governmental organizations are free. Real prices in the full range are rare (for example, the online course from CIC for 550 CZK). 🔴 Domains have moved: CIC — to cicops.cz, META — to meta-ops.eu.

Important. 🔴 "50 CZK per lesson" is a myth from 2007–2012. And People in Need (Člověk v tísni) does not offer general Czech courses at all, even though it is recommended in every second chat.
