Nostrifikace is the recognition of foreign education in the Czech Republic. Without it, a Ukrainian certificate or diploma is often not recognized by Czech authorities.
Who decides and how much it costs
- Primary school / Secondary school / Higher professional school — decided by the Regional Office (Krajský úřad). Fee is 3,000 CZK, time limit 30 days (+30).
- University education — decided by a public university with a similar program (private ones cannot). Fee is 3,000 CZK (§ 90a of Act 111/1998), time limit 30 days; appeal 15 days → Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MŠMT).
🔴 "1,000 CZK" is outdated
The increase to 3,000 CZK happened on March 1, 2025 (Act No. 52/2025 Coll.). Many websites still repeat the figure of 1,000 CZK — do not rely on them.
🔴 Fee exemption is limited
From September 1, 2024, exemption applies only if temporary protection (dočasná ochrana) was granted less than 12 months ago on the date of application. It depends on the visa code: 6 = initial (always less than 12 months) · 7 or 8 = extended → you pay 3,000 CZK. In practice: if you extended your temporary protection, you pay.
What is useful to know
- ✅ Declaration of truth (Čestné prohlášení) instead of lost documents — § 90, paragraph 4 of Act 111/1998 Coll., for holders of temporary protection. It is valid.
- 🔴 Diplomas from the USSR period from June 6, 1972 – February 27, 2000 inclusive are recognized automatically, without nostrification.
- Nostrification ≠ right to a regulated profession (doctors, nurses, lawyers, teachers — separate procedures). For non-regulated professions, nostrification is not required at all — the employer decides.
