Krajský úřad

regional office

What does “Krajský úřad” mean in Czechia?

Krajský úřad (regional authority) is a regional government body. For educational matters concerning a Ukrainian, it is the main authority for school documents.

Nostrification of certificates

  • It decides on the nostrification of levels ZŠ / SŠ / VOŠ (primary school / secondary school / higher vocational school).
  • Fee — 3,000 CZK (from 01.03.2025, Act No. 52/2025 Coll.).
  • Time limit — 30 days, with a possible extension of another 30 days.

Language preparation for children

Through the krajské úřady, language preparation is systematically organized — up to 400 hours per year for free for children with temporary protection, directly in schools.

Where to go with a university diploma

Not here. University diplomas are nostrified by a public university with a similar program, and appeals go to the MŠMT (Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports).

If a school refused a child

Escalation: municipality → regional authority → MŠMT. They are obliged to find a place.

Important. Do not confuse the authorities: a certificate (primary/secondary/higher vocational school) is for the Krajský úřad (regional office), and a university diploma is for the public university. Sending your application to the wrong place will cost you weeks.
