Střední škola

secondary school

What does “Střední škola” mean in Czechia?

Střední škola (SŠ) is a Czech secondary school, the next level after primary school. Admission to maturitní obory (study programs leading to the school-leaving exam) is through entrance exams.

Admissions Benefits 2026/2027

New § 20, paragraph 4 of the School Act (from 01.01.2026):

  • The exam in Czech language is replaced by an interview — if the student studied outside the Czech Republic for at least 1 school year out of the 3 previous years.
  • +25% time for the exam.
  • A translation dictionary is allowed.

🔴 What has changed for the worse

It is no longer possible to take the mathematics exam in Ukrainian. This was possible before, but not now. Plan your preparation considering Czech terminology.

Certificate from Ukraine

Nostrification of the SŠ certificate is decided by the Krajský úřad (Regional Office): fee of 3,000 CZK, processing time 30 days (+30). An Apostille is not needed — only a translation by a sworn translator (soudním tlumočníkem).

Important. 🔴 The most important change in 2026: JPZ mathematics will no longer be taken in Ukrainian. The advantage of Czech (interview instead of exam) remains — but not for mathematics.
