OBZP

person without taxable income

What does “OBZP” mean in Czechia?

OBZP (osoba bez zdanitelných příjmů) — a status where you pay health insurance for yourself because neither your employer nor the state pays for you.

🔴 Why this affects almost everyone with temporary protection

From February 11, 2025, the state will pay contributions for only 90 days from the date temporary protection is granted (it was 150 days).

  • exception — the state pays indefinitely: children under 18 and people aged 65+
  • everyone else (18–64) must inform their insurance company who will pay after 90 days

Who pays after 90 days

  • employer
  • you yourself as OSVČ (Czech self-employed status)
  • privileged categories — students, registered at the Labor Office (ÚP), caring for a young child, disabled (with documents)
  • otherwise — OBZP: 3,024 CZK/month by the 8th day of the following month

What you get for this money

Coverage — full public insurance, the same as for Czech citizens. This is not just "emergency care and that's it."

Important. 🔴 Nobody will personally warn you about the end of 90 days. If you don't inform the insurance company and don't pay, a debt will grow. A debt for insurance as of 03/31/2026 blocks the way to ZDP (back payments do not help). You must inform the insurance company about a change of payer within 8 days.
