Rodný list — Czech birth certificate, issued by the matriční úřad (registry office) in the district where the child was born.
🔴 Important: the child gets a rodné číslo
Adults with dočasná ochrana (temporary protection) and ZDP (long-term residence permit) are not assigned a rodné číslo at all (§ 7v of Act 65/2022 Coll.) — the insurance company gives a číslo pojištěnce (policy number) instead. But this does not apply to children born in the Czech Republic:
- a child born in a medical facility in the Czech Republic is automatically assigned a rodné číslo — you do not need to ask for it
- the matriční úřad assigns an RČ (rodné číslo) to both Czech citizens and foreigners born in the Czech Republic, enters it into the birth register, and issues a rodný list with the RČ indicated
If you don't have Ukrainian documents
In special cases, the registry office may allow replacement of documents with a sworn statement from the parents — this is a practical solution when documents are lost.
