Trvalý pobyt — permanent residence in the Czech Republic, an indefinite status. The basic condition is 5 years of continuous stay (§ 68 of Act No. 326/1999 Coll.).
Main calculation: how much is actually counted
- Temporary protection is counted by half, special long-term residence is counted fully (§ 7w para. 6 of Act No. 65/2022 Coll. as lex specialis; § 68 itself says nothing about temporary protection).
- In practice: if you have been under temporary protection since March 2022, then by mid-2026 this is about 4.3 years, and approximately 2.2 years will be counted. To reach five years with only temporary protection will take about ten years. The working path is through ZDP.
Czech A2 — not A1
- The exam costs 3,200 CZK, the operator is NPI ČR.
- Structure: written part 70 points (reading 25, writing 20, listening 25) plus oral part 40 points; the passing threshold is 60%, which means 42 and 24 points respectively.
- If you fail one part, you retake the entire exam. The number of attempts is unlimited.
- From 04/11/2026, a new A2 format will be in effect: writing and speaking will change, but the level, passing threshold, and price will remain the same.
- Exempt: persons under 15 and over 60 years old; those who have studied for at least one year in a Czech school in the last 20 years; citizens of the EU.
The fee is 2,500 CZK (1,000 CZK for children under 15). The decision period is 60 days, or 180 days if applying from abroad.
