Vízový štítek

visa sticker in passport

What does “Vízový štítek” mean in Czechia?

Visa sticker — a visa sticker in your passport that a country uses to physically confirm your status. In 2026, this is the second and final step to extend your temporary protection.

How it works in 2026

  • Online registration by March 15, 2026, only extends protection until September 30, 2026.
  • After that, you need to appear in person for a visa stamp by September 30, 2026 — and only after that will protection be valid until March 31, 2027.

This means that registration by itself does not extend anything. If you do not appear, your protection will end on September 30, 2026, and you might not be able to get an appointment at the last minute: "there is no legal right to a new appointment".

The code on the stamp is not just decoration

The number on the stamp shows if your protection is initial or extended, and this affects your money:

  • 6 — initial temporary protection (always less than 12 months);
  • 7 or 8 — extended.

For diploma nostrification, exemption from the fee is valid only if protection was granted less than 12 months ago. In practice, this means: if you have code 7 or 8, you will pay 3,000 CZK.

Important. Check the code on your stamp before submitting documents for nostrification: with code 7 or 8, you will have to pay a fee of 3,000 CZK, and there is no arguing about it.

Frequently asked questions

Is online registration enough to extend protection until March 31, 2027?
No. Registration by March 15, 2026, gives protection only until September 30, 2026. Protection until March 31, 2027, is only proven by personal appearance with a visa stamp by September 30, 2026.
What do the numbers 6, 7, or 8 on the stamp mean?
6 — primary temporary protection, 7 or 8 — extended. For nostrification with code 7 or 8, you pay a fee of 3,000 CZK because the exemption is valid only for protection granted less than 12 months ago.
