Czech Language Exam A2 is a state exam in the Czech language needed for permanent residence. The price is 3,200 CZK, the operator is NPI ČR.

🔴 Only A2, Not A1

The level is A2. The website cizinci.cz still writes A1 — this is old information that costs people time and nerves.

Structure

  • Written part — 70 points: reading 25 / writing 20 / listening 25.
  • Oral part — 40 points.
  • Passing score — 60%, which is 42 and 24.
  • Failed a part → you retake the whole exam. There is no limit to the number of attempts.

🔴 The Most Persistent Myth

There is NO free first attempt from 01.01.2024 — the Ministry of the Interior vouchers were canceled on 31.08.2023. Each attempt costs 3,200 CZK.

Who is Exempt

Under 15 years old and over 60; those who have studied Czech for ≥1 year in the last 20 years; EU citizens.

🆕 New Format

From 11.04.2026, a new A2 format will be in effect — the writing and speaking parts will change. The level, passing score, and price remain the same.

Important. 🔴 There is no free first attempt from 01.01.2024. If they promise you a voucher from the Ministry of Interior (Ministerstvo vnútra) — this is information from three years ago, they were canceled on 31.08.2023.
