Bachelor / Master — these are two consecutive levels of university education in the Czech Republic: Bachelor's (Bc.) and Master's (Mgr., or Ing. in technical fields).
How much does it cost
Studying in Czech in a public university is free for everyone, regardless of citizenship (§ 58 of Act 111/1998 Coll.) — both for Bachelor's and Master's degrees.
If you have a Ukrainian diploma
- Nostrifikácia (recognition of foreign diploma) is done by a public university with a similar program — private ones cannot. The fee is 3,000 Kč (§ 90a of Act 111/1998), the process takes 30 days; appeal within 15 days → MŠMT (Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports).
- Diplomas from the USSR from June 6, 1972 – February 27, 2000 inclusive are recognized automatically, without nostrifikácia.
- An Apostila is not needed — only a translation by a court-sworn translator (soudní tlumočník).
Important warning
Nostrifikácia ≠ the right to a regulated profession. Doctors, nurses, lawyers, teachers go through separate procedures. For non-regulated professions, nostrifikácia is not required at all — the employer decides.
