Neschopenka — a document about temporary work incapacity, issued by a doctor. It is the basis for receiving nemocenské (sickness benefit) from sickness insurance.
Who is covered and who is not
- Employees — automatically included in sickness insurance: it is part of social security contributions (7.1% for the employee = 6.5% for pension + 0.6% for sickness)
- OSVČ (Czech self-employed status) — sickness insurance is only voluntary, minimum 243 CZK/month; without it, a neschopenka does not provide any money
- DPP (agreement on work performance) — participation in insurance occurs when the threshold of 12,000 CZK/month is exceeded with one employer
Why it is important to start early
Sickness insurance is the same insurance from which PPM (maternity allowance - requires 270 days in 2 years), otcovská (paternity leave; for OSVČ - 3 months paid), and ošetřovné (caregiving benefit; for OSVČ - 3 months) are paid. If you do not start paying in advance, none of these benefits will be available.
