What does “Ubytovna” mean in Czechia?

Ubytovna is a place for long-term living (dormitory, workers' hotel). Legally, it is an ubytovací služba (accommodation service), not a lease — and everything else follows from this.

What this means for your rights

The protection that the Civil Code gives to a nájomca (tenant) (3-month notice, deposit limit of 3x rent, mandatory instruction about 2 months to object) does not apply here — you do not have a lease agreement.
Plus: the ubytovatel (accommodation provider) registers your address for you. If you live in a dormitory and pay for it, you do not go to the police yourself under § 93.

🔴 A risk few people think about

You leave, you argue, you don't pay — the ubytovatel will deregister you. After that, the process is strict: the Ministry of Interior cancels your address → assigns an address by OAMP (Alien Police Service) → after 90 days, temporary protection ends directly by law, without a decision and without notice.

Important. The dormitory holds your address — and your address holds your temporary protection. When you check out, immediately register a new address and check yourself in the resident register (register obyvatel) through the Citizen's Portal (Portál občana).

You do not have a rental agreement at the dormitory.

Do I have the right to a 3-month notice period at the ubytovňa (accommodation facility)?

No. An ubytovna (accommodation facility) is an accommodation service, not a rental: the eviction rules from § 2285 and onwards do not apply to you. The terms are set by the accommodation agreement.

Do I need to go to the police myself to register my address?

If you live in a hotel, dormitory, or with a landlord for a fee — no: according to § 93, those for whom the ubytovatel (accommodation provider) has done this are exempt from this duty.
