IČO (identifikační číslo osoby - identification number of a person) is an identification number you get when you open a živnosť (sole-trader licence). From this moment, you are OSVČ (Czech self-employed status).
How much does it cost to open
- the first ohlášení živnosti (notification of a sole-trader licence) — 1,000 Kč
- each next one — 500 Kč
- žádost o koncesi (application for a concession) — 1,000 Kč
You can submit it at any obecní živnostenský úřad (municipal trade licensing office), at a CzechPOINT, or online through the JRF. The extract is issued within 5 days of submitting the notification.
🔑 JRF (jednotný registrační formulář - unified registration form) covers 5 authorities at once: trade licensing office + tax office + Czech Social Security Administration (ČSSZ) + health insurance company + labor office.
🔴 What comes with the IČO
You opened a sole-trader licence → you became self-employed → your data box is created automatically and is mandatory (from 01.01.2023), and with it — mandatory electronic tax return.
🔴 A trap for holders of temporary protection
A Ukrainian with temporary protection (DO) applies for a sole-trader licence under the same conditions as a Czech citizen — temporary protection serves as a document of stay. You need: valid temporary protection, ID card, výpis z rejstříku trestů (extract from the criminal records - Czech and Ukrainian).
But: the sole-trader licence is issued for a limited period, tied to the expiry date of your temporary protection. If you extend your protection — you must inform the trade licensing office, otherwise your licence will expire with your old temporary protection.
