Komplexní zdravotní pojištění cizinců

Comprehensive medical insurance for foreigners

What does “Komplexní zdravotní pojištění cizinců” mean in Czechia?

Comprehensive health insurance for foreigners — commercial medical insurance for those who do not have public health insurance.

🔴 Who this often concerns

Those who switched to ZDP (long-term residence permit) and do not work: on ZDP, public insurance is provided only if you work — self-employed people (OSVČ) and unemployed people must get commercial insurance. This is one of the main hidden costs of switching from temporary protection to ZDP.

What has changed

  • the limit has been raised from 3,000,000 CZK to 10,000,000 CZK (= 400,000 EUR) per insured event
  • for old contracts, the limit will be raised automatically after 3 months
  • PVZP's monopoly has been canceled — other insurance companies can also offer it
  • PVZP Exclusive covers illnesses that existed before the contract was signed
Important. 🔴 ZDP — not a free upgrade: if you are not working, you lose public insurance with it and switch to commercial insurance. Calculate this cost BEFORE applying for ZDP.
